Mr. Rahul Bajaj, Chairman Bajaj Auto Ltd and Sir Dominic Asquith, British High Commissioner to India, gave away the JRD Tata BYST Awards to young entrepreneurs at a Conference on Grassroots Start-ups for inclusive Growth organised by Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) in New Delhi today, attended by over 500 participants. Mr Bajaj lauded BYST’s unique and important role of providing mentoring to underprivileged entrepreneurs competing under difficult conditions. This event discussed the importance of supporting grassroots initiatives and entrepreneurs in creating jobs and developing the social and economic conditions of the people.
The “JRD Tata Young Entrepreneur Award” was instituted in the year 1995 in the memory of Late Founder, Mr J R D Tata. The purpose of the Award is to establish a system of appreciation and recognition of excellence among BYST young entrepreneurs. Furthermore, it also recognizes the voluntary contribution made by Business Mentors who have given their valuable time and expert guidance in promoting youth entrepreneurship, especially among underprivileged sections of society. Founding Trustee, BYST. The awardees were selected by a jury headed by Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, and included Mr. Gaurav Dalmia, Chairman, Landmark Holdings, Mr. Vikram Chandra, Executive Director & CEO, NDTV Group, Mr. Rajiv Memani, Chairman & Regional Managing Partner, EY India and Mr. Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, JCB India Ltd from over many nominations received from across the country.
Mr. Tusshar Munnoat from Pune won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Mr Bhaskar Tamuli from Assam revived a traditional craft from Assam as manufacturer of bell metal artefacts and bagged the Special Award for Entrepreneur of the Year.
The other winners were Ms. Sonal Patil, Pune, for Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Mr Arun Awatade and Mr Yogesh Kode, also from Pune, won the Social Entrepreneur award. Mentors of the winners were also recognised and awarded.
